No Time

Words spread across the page
The girl starves; my heart weeps
Stark reality

Our children, boys, girls
Pressures and expectations
Adults do not see

Appearance, success
Perfection, must not ever fail
Adults in child form

How many see them
Treasures and gifts of children
Or is there no time

(Written during the reading of Winter Girls by Laurie Anderson)

There are always commonalities in the pressures that kids face from one generation to the next, but there are also differences that the older generation just cannot understand. Nice One Shot!

Very well done, I agree with Eric A. ~ I think we give far more often than our elders had and the elders before them (something we all strive for is making our children a "better" life) sometimes I wonder if it does. Right now mine is only 4...lol sometimes I act 4 (she gets annoyed..haha) ;)) lovely writing!! ~April :)

We have to make time. They have to be secure in knowing that they are loved; that they are fine the way they are, before they are encouraged (or pushed) to excel.

Great one shot, TE! So nice to see you link up this week!

(How many blogs do you have? ;-)

this had a blistering pace to it for me....which only added to the tension of taking time with our children...i think we have to decide what is most important and invest our time there...nice one shot!

You express what I often fear, that we push our kids so much and rob them of childhood.

I really like your poem.

Hi!

I too had to look back and wonder if I have given all I had to my children. You know what? I am still giving!!!!!!!!!!

Nice One shot!

Thanks - the book was powerful and sad and heart wrenching. How often do we see our kids as they are? How often do we take the time to focus and given them "us?"

I am not sure that poem captured all that I wanted but the book was a bit beyond words.

Belinda - I just have the two... this one just started for the creative play!

Love how a poem can inspire a conversation.

There are those that give an abundance of love and training to their children and there are those who give less than nothing.

Thanks for sharing this with One Shot
